The chiropractic is an about 5000 year old medical manipulation technique to treat disturbances of the locomotor system of known cause.
Since 1976, the manual therapy is part of the medical vocational training regulation and only physicians are allowed to carry it out entirely. The condition for a successful chiropractic treatment is a precise examination of the locomotor system combined with a check of disturbed joint functions (joint blockages), especially of the spine but also of the pelvis and the peripheral joints of the limbs. The success can be seen directly after the chiropractic treatment.
One distinguishes two types of manual therapy: Firstly, the mobilization in free and blocked direction and secondly, the manipulation which is carried out exclusively in free direction. A preceding X-ray examination can help to reveal possible contra-indications, but an X-ray examination of the cervical spine is obligatory.
